Tan’s lecture will explore what exactly an artist’s brand is, as well as how to create one and share it through tools like personal websites, social media, and more. This lecture will be followed by a Q&A session.

About the Instructor:

For more than fifteen years, Ken Tan has been involved in all forms of creative projects across various industries. His career started in Singapore, where he founded and ran a creative shop that had him work with some of the best brands in Asia Pacific: Nike, Adidas, Expedia, Disney and more. Later, he led a creative team as Creative Director at Bates Asia. He has received recognition for creative excellence from D&AD and Effies.

His passion for the arts and acumen for business development led him to New York City, where he has been based for the last four years. Currently, he is Partner and Director at MARC STRAUS Gallery, a leading contemporary art gallery in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, where he sees to the PR, brand and creative vision, digital marketing, social media, strategy and development, curating exhibitions and industry events. He works with some of the world’s leading artists, curators, critics and collectors. 

His curatorial activity includes more than thirty gallery exhibitions, and international exhibitions such as "Jeanne Silverthorne: From Darkness" (MARC STRAUS, NY, 2019); "Death Is Irrelevant" (Hudson Valley MOCA, NY, 2018); "Every Day Is A Good Day" (SPIRAL, Tokyo, Japan, 2018), "The Apotheosis of The Fish Market" (New York, 2016); "The Swifty Show, 2009" (Melbourne, Australia, 2009). 

Ken collects contemporary art and is an avid Instagrammer, and writes about art for the online publication Hyperallergic.

Artists in the Marketplace is a year-long, four-part series of lectures, panels, and workshops designed to offer artists and art enthusiasts practical knowledge and skills for today’s art market.
