’The Intersection of the Art of the Word and Visual Art’

Panel Discussion for the closing of the 6th Annual Juried Exhibition: In-Security

When life's rhythms are interrupted and off kilter, the earth seems to shift, life routines are askew. Within any time period, the instability of order, flux and change, comfort and alienation, challenged artists: Diego Rivera, Anselm Keifer, Frida Kahlo, Edvard Munch, Michaelangelo, El Greco…, to present works that reflect what troubles us or touches us, makes us feel the in-security of balancing on a high wire or within the comfort and security of home and hearth.

Applications were impressive, and choosing was difficult. We thank all of the artists who trusted us and chanced voicing their thoughts through their art. We hope that the art works ultimately chosen will resonate with feeling and open the road to interpretation and shared dialogue.

Panel Discussions:

3:00-4:00 PM:
Word and Image as an Art Form moderated by Carla Rae Johnson

Exhibition artists whose works integrate language will discuss how their work has evolved and why this particular format intrigues them.

4:00-5:00 PM:
Exhibition artists, in a round table discussion, will have an opportunity to share how their art represents feelings of security or insecurity through their lens as producer as well as observer.
