‘The Members Lounge: Landscape Reimagined’

by Chris Jones

HVMOCA artist in residence, current lives on the outskirts of London. Working with cut paper, thousands of images culled from magazines, encyclopedia and pictures mined on the internet, Mr. Jones creates a world within a world, teaching how each object affects our realities based on personal history, intensity of emotion, processed information, a visual memory castle. In his works we are confronted by life’s painful visual images and nostalgic look backs, showing the way human memory boards affect our emotions and actions. His 2008 solo exhibition at HVMOCA, culminated a 3 month residency that drew on the history and mythology of the Hudson Valley. Featured in the NY Times, Westchester Magazine and the Brooklyn Rail, it culled critical acclaim. In this current exhibition we have a look as well at what the artist has created since, a space that encircles the individual and invites one to dream.
